Kidjīmāninān

What is Kidjīmāninān

Kidjīmāninān is a Kitigan Zibi Anishinàbeg-led initiative to protect the land and waters in the Outaouais region of our traditional territory. Rooted in Anishinàbe knowledge, we work with MRCs (regional municipalities), conservation groups, researchers, and community members to protect what really matters.

Why it matters?

Conservation is more than just setting aside land or drawing lines on a map. It’s about honoring the relationships that have always existed between people, animals, and the land.

Decisions about conservation do not always involve those who have cared for these lands since time immemorial. Kidjīmāninān is changing that.

By leading the conversation and working together, we ensure that the land is protected in a way that honors both its spirit and our shared future.

What Kidjīmāninān is not

Kidjīmāninān is not about land claims, land appropriation, or restricting all recreational access to the land. Our goal is to balance conservation with sustainable use, ensuring that the land continues to support all who depend on it, now and for future generations.
